Your way to power begins in a small city. 1100AD is a strategy browsergame, your first moves should entail building important structures in your city and acquiring resources. You need farms for food production and a market place to trade besides securing the supply of coal, iron, wood, lime and stone.
Provided with enough resources you can build a massive castle and set up an army. Send your army out to extend your empire. The castle is your center of power, develop it whenever possible. Upgrade the weapons and armor of your troops at the smithy to create terrifying tools of terror for the battlefield. Choose a powerful hero, with his unique abilities he can decide whole battles.
